Last Month Volkswagen had its best May sales since 1973. The Golf had the best improvement over last year’s numbers, as the almost 4,000 sold was an 11% increase. The Passat has no real numbers to compare, but the 10,178 marks the third month in a row it sold over 10,000 times. The Jetta continues to be the most popular model, together the sedan and SportWagen sold more than 15,000 units. The Jetta sedan was down 5.5% from last year, but it may just be losing fans because of the  Passat’s success.  The Beetle is selling just as well as the Golf, but it also has no 2011 numbers. It was, however, the best May since 2002. All together, 38,657 Volkswagens found new homes, a 28% increase over last year.

The Tiguan was the best selling SUV, though as a whole, SUV & CV sales are not doing as well as the cars. That may be the driving force behind the recent activity at the Chattanooga plant
